Achieving success online is easy for some and difficult for others. Why is this the case you might ask? It all comes down to having the right tools that get the job done. This is true of most things in life and especially true when it comes to online marketing and SEO. The good news is that there are very powerful SEO tools on the market today that cost very little to own or use.
Learn about your website. It has always been amazing to me that you don’t know as much about your own website as you think you do. Not only do you need to know how your site is constructed, but its also beneficial to inspect the foundation. From my perspective the foundation is the code upon which a web site is built. Check your site against W3C standards to ensure it meets basic coding standards.
Focus on on-page optimization. All of the link development in the world isn’t going to help if your site doesn’t make the most of on-page optimization factors. These factors include everything from using the proper tags to placing your keyword throughout the text. I strongly recommend including your keywords within the first twenty-five and last twenty-five words on your page.
Search engines like Google favor sites that load quickly. The reason why this is so critical is because page load times are an essential factor in user experience. Consider two sites that offer valuable information. The first loads in about 4 second and the other in 12. Which one provides a better user experience? It’s a simple question, the one that loads quickly. Consider page load times when working to optimize your site. There are plenty of tools that can help you determine load times quickly.
Don’t wait for search engines to spider your site. There is a log of question as to the value of this particular tip so I wouldn’t make it your the basis of your SEO strategy. However, submitting your website URL to different search engines can prove beneficial. This is especially true after a major redesign or change to your site. It’s always been my preference to wait for search engines to find my site. However, I have submitted new sites to Google and MSN just to let them know I’m out there.
Build links to your site. Generating in-bound links to your website is the true key to being successful through search engine optimization. This is especially true if the inbound links are from sites with a high Google page rank. The Google Page Rank value determines the quality of the link. If enough links of sufficient quantity are pointing to your website, then search engine results will improve.
If doing business online, you can find plenty of tools that can help you validate your code, evaluate on page factors, determine the speed of your website, help you submit to search engines, and build in-bound links. Chance are, if you want a single tool that can do all of these things, it wont be free. But as I like to say, you get what you pay for.
To make the most of your online marketing campaigns, SEO will give you the biggest boost. The good news is that you can succeed with organic rankings by using online tools that are cost effective and easy to use. Don’t waste your precious time doing everything manually. Rather, spend time researching effective online tools and get going. You’ll save valuable time and money.
